Let’s Talk About Sugaring…

Hair removal has been part of conversations for years. At RAW, we believe it is a deeply personal choice, and what matters most is that your experience feels gentle, respectful, and comfortable for your skin.
There are many ways to remove body hair today: waxing, shaving, razors, laser, and more. Each method has its place, but in this article, we want to share the technique we believe offers one of the most skin-conscious approaches: sugaring hair removal.
What Is Sugaring?
Body sugaring is a natural hair removal method that uses a simple blend of three ingredients: sugar, water, and lemon.
This paste is made from 100% natural ingredients, making it a gentle and hypoallergenic option for many skin types. Because it avoids artificial chemicals, resins, and additives, sugaring is often chosen by people looking for a more mindful and skin-friendly alternative to traditional hair removal methods.
How Does Sugaring Work?
One of the key benefits of sugaring is its gentle and non-invasive technique.
The sugar paste is applied against the natural direction of hair growth. This allows it to gently wrap around each hair from root to tip. It is applied at a warm temperature, helping avoid the risk of burns and reducing discomfort on the skin.
The paste is then removed in the natural direction of hair growth. This technique helps minimize hair breakage and can reduce ingrown hairs over time.
What Are the Benefits of Sugaring?
Long-Lasting Results
Because sugaring removes hair directly from the root, results tend to last for several weeks.
With consistent appointments, many people also notice that hair grows back finer and softer over time, making regrowth less noticeable and allowing more time between sessions.
Eco-Friendly Approach
The sugaring paste is biodegradable and environmentally friendly. Since it is made from simple, natural ingredients, it does not generate harsh chemical waste, making it a more conscious choice for both skin and environment.
Skin-Friendly Care
Sugaring does more than remove hair. It also gently exfoliates the skin during the process, helping remove dead skin cells and leaving the skin feeling softer, smoother, and refreshed after treatment.
What About Aftercare?
Even though sugaring is known for being a gentler method of hair removal, the skin may still feel slightly sensitive afterward. That is why proper aftercare is an essential part of the process.
During the first 24 hours, allow your skin time to recover. We recommend avoiding anything that may create excess heat, friction, or irritation, including hot baths, saunas, tanning beds, direct sun exposure, and intense workouts that cause heavy sweating. It's also best to avoid touching the treated area unnecessarily, wearing tight or non-breathable clothing (such as lace or synthetic underwear after a Brazilian sugaring service), and intimate activity during this initial recovery period.
From day one, keeping the skin moisturized with a gentle, nourishing oil designed for the treated area can help support the skin barrier and maintain comfort. After 72 hours, you can begin gentle exfoliation as part of your regular aftercare routine.
Exfoliation is especially important for areas with terminal hair, the thicker, coarser hair found in areas such as the Brazilian, underarms, and, for many people, the lower legs. Because terminal hair is stronger and grows back differently, these areas are naturally more prone to ingrown hairs if dead skin cells build up around the follicle.
At RAW, we believe your sugaring appointment doesn't end when you leave the studio. The days between appointments are just as important as the service itself. A simple routine of hydration and gentle exfoliation helps care for your skin, supports healthy hair regrowth, and allows you to enjoy your results for longer.
By combining regular hydration with gentle exfoliation between appointments, you can help keep your skin smooth, encourage healthy hair growth, and reduce the likelihood of ingrown hairs over time.
A Gentle Reminder About Your Skin
Every body is different, and not every hair removal method works the same for everyone.
Sugaring is often considered one of the gentlest approaches to hair removal, but the most important thing is choosing what feels right for your skin, your lifestyle, and your comfort.
For some, hair removal is simply an aesthetic preference. For others, it can be about feeling more comfortable during their period, while exercising, on vacation, or simply in their everyday routine. Whatever your reason, it should always be your choice.
If hair removal is part of your self-care ritual, your skin deserves a method that respects it. Choosing a technique that minimizes irritation while supporting your skin's natural balance can make all the difference, not just on the day of your appointment, but in the weeks that follow.
After all, every ritual begins with choosing what feels right for your body.
If sugaring feels like the right fit for you, we'd love to welcome you.
